Educate Yourself

Autism is a complex disorder that affects each person differently. People with autism can range from successful scientists, to stay at home moms, to individuals still supported by their family. There are even people who occupy both ends of the spectrum, who are brilliant yet struggle to hold down a job or leave the house. This non-exhaustive collection of books, movies, shows, podcasts and comics explains not only the signs and symptoms of ASD from a scientific background, but also how the it affects the personal lives of those with the disorder from their own perspective. One of the best ways to understand and empathize with autistic people is to see their lives and experiences through their own narratives as well as those of the people closest to them. These sources can inspire, give insight, and even help people with autism understand more about themselves.
